2M Medics for medics association
2M is a group of medics and young doctors from three Prague and one Olomouc medical faculties, who endeavor to understand their medical careers better according to Christian values, discuss ethical dilemmas in medicine, and try to support students of medicine in their broader education.
The association’s aim is to be an open platform for meetings, where medics can test their opinions, receive inspiration, and new impulses for their future career. Besides that, 2M organizes lectures and discussions for both medics and the public.
The association’s main credo is belief, that a good doctor must have not only the necessary professional knowledge and sensitive attitude to his or her patients, but he must also respect a patient’s dignity and personality.
A good doctor is not satisfied just with the knowledge of “biological” medicine, but seeks a more complex view of a medical profession, which expects a high moral standard and a strong character.
Topics, that 2M is interested in:
- A holistic medicine concept and an integrated whole person care
- Right communication with patients
- Practical psychology for doctors
- Medical ethics topics; for example the euthanasia problem, how to tell patients the whole truth, problems of care for disabled people, and legal issues.
- Burn-out syndrome
- Spiritual care of patients - how and why applies it
- Palliative medicine issues and the hospice movement
- Medical charity organizations and doctors who work in Third World countries etc.
2M association was founded in 2004. It was inspired by activities of similar organizations in Great Britain and other European countries. We invite various personalities from the medical and psychological world for small-group student meetings, lectures and discussions.
